The LAMBS of Highgate Story

When mom passed away peacefully on August 28, 2018, we realized that many articles, equipment, and tools she had to aid in her comfort could be shared with others who were incapacitated as she had been.

We donated wheelchairs, a bed, bathroom essentials, cushions, and more, but quickly realized that there was an overwhelming need among senior citizens. Caregivers were so thankful and relieved that their loved ones would benefit from the donation that once made mom comfortable.

For us, this was the confirmation we needed, as the same was true when Dad passed away ten years earlier. I recall us giving away a brand-new hearing aid he never had the opportunity to wear. When we donated it back to the same medical facility from which it was bought and requested that it be given to someone in need, there was an unbelievable expression of gratitude. "We know several people who would love to have this," was the response.

This was moving, as out of the sadness of my family's loss came the idea of finding ways to keep my parents' memory alive by assisting seniors in need with dignity.

This is how LAMBS of Highgate, a 501(c) (3) organization, began. Missioned to assist underserved seniors in Jamaica, we are actively championing our cause. Since its inception, we have assisted several organizations, including The Consie Walters Cancer Hospice Care Unit, The Franciscan Missionary Sisters' Table of Love Project, and two (2) senior residences (Infirmaries).

Assisted by a vibrant group of volunteers and strong community support, LAMBS of Highgate will host its 2nd Annual International Literary Arts Festival on July 9, 2022, in Jamaica Estates, New York, at 4 pm. This prestigious summer fundraising event showcases storytelling and poetry readings across cultures and countries around the world.
